07/28 1,000 PUSHUPS

Postby Put Up or Shut Up » Wed Jul 28, 2010 2:09 pm

Due to some swelling/inflamation in my left knee, i decided today was the day to conquer Mark's 1,000 pushup challenge. As my great grandfather used to say, "tomorrow, tomorrow, just not today, that's what all the lazy people say."

1. Warm-up: 2k row, then 2 min max situps (pst style)
2. Strength: 5x3 Hang Power Clean
3. Work Capacity: For time- 1,000 pushups
4. Durabilty: Stretch and hydrate
_______________
1. 2k row- 7:08, 78 situps. I need to improve my turnover for the first 60 secs.
2. 175# for all sets. My goal is to hang power clean 225# by the end of December.
3. As rx'ed w/CTD pushups. Time- 57:24.

Im pleased with the HPC's considering my left knee is vey, very swollen, but the pushups were absolutely brutal. I started with 20 CTD pushups "on the minute" for the first 35 mins, but then I dropped the sets to 15. The last 200 or so were miserable and I admit to not locking out the final 100-150. I battled total muscular failure and cramps (feet, calves, and quads) for the final 10 mins or so. While I dont think this workout improved my max rep pushups, it succeeded in breaking down mental barriers. I wanted to give up around 500-600, but my training partner helped me get thru the grind. He finished his 1,000 pushups in an amazing 36:45-- he did 25-30 pushups on the minute.

Haha, former football player who has lost about 20-25# since his playing days. He got 91 pushups on the pst which is solid considering he really had to sell out on the swim to go low 9's. Our pushups werent pst style and if someone claims to hold strict form on 1,000 pushups, i have to see that video because i dont believe its possible.

No warm-up.
56:25 in sets of 6 with a 10 second break. I also moved the spacing of my arms from after each set in a cycle of: wide, medium, narrow. I'm not sure if that's allowed, but I'm plenty sore, so it worked just fine for me.

I tackled the 1000 Pushup Challenge on Sat morning. Figured it was a good way to kill some time before my wife got up. :D
68 minutes. Broke them up into sets of 20-15-10. Def a serious mental exercise. Sunday night/Monday morning it really kicked in.
Wife comes downstairs to the basement weightroom "What are you doing?"A 1000 pushups" "Oh ok see ya later" Love it when doing a 1000 pushups doesn't seem totally insane!

I copied Put Up for as much as I could, but since I don't have equipment, I couldn't really do much, so I decided to do the sealfit challenge.

1. WU: Run and then max situps in 2 minutes (PST style): 88
2. WC: 1000 pushups: 62:58

Considering I've been traveling the past 3 weeks and haven't been taking care of myself (lost 10 lbs during travel and got sick), I wasn't as disappointed in the time I would have normally been. Pushups are normally a strength of mine, and I'm pretty sure had I not been totally crappily out of shape, I could have easily broken 1 hr. Oh well...the road to recovery is long and arduous.

My strategy was similar to Put Up's, with 20 pushups on the minute. This worked til about 700, at which point I started doing roughly 25 pushups every 1.5 minutes or so. By the end, it had dropped to 10 pushups every 40 seconds or so.

I also had a moment when I wanted to quit, though mine came at the 300 pushup mark. I didn't quit, but thankfully kept on going. I'm looking forward to getting back into the sealfit routine of things...

Work capacity: Did 4 rounds of bad frog 19:46

1000 Pushups (about 5min after bad frog): 75:02
Did the first 500 in 26min but I didnt eat enough this morning and definitely bonked out on the last 500. I felt like I was moving through molasses. Brutal!

Opted to do the pushup challenge today instead of "Arnie"

1000 pushups: 52:20

Started out doing 20 every minute. Did chest to deck for about the first 700, then form really suffered after this point. I felt pretty good after completing this though.
