Due to some swelling/inflamation in my left knee, i decided today was the day to conquer Mark's 1,000 pushup challenge. As my great grandfather used to say, "tomorrow, tomorrow, just not today, that's what all the lazy people say."
1. Warm-up: 2k row, then 2 min max situps (pst style)
2. Strength: 5x3 Hang Power Clean
3. Work Capacity: For time- 1,000 pushups
4. Durabilty: Stretch and hydrate
_______________
1. 2k row- 7:08, 78 situps. I need to improve my turnover for the first 60 secs.
2. 175# for all sets. My goal is to hang power clean 225# by the end of December.
3. As rx'ed w/CTD pushups. Time- 57:24.
Im pleased with the HPC's considering my left knee is vey, very swollen, but the pushups were absolutely brutal. I started with 20 CTD pushups "on the minute" for the first 35 mins, but then I dropped the sets to 15. The last 200 or so were miserable and I admit to not locking out the final 100-150. I battled total muscular failure and cramps (feet, calves, and quads) for the final 10 mins or so. While I dont think this workout improved my max rep pushups, it succeeded in breaking down mental barriers. I wanted to give up around 500-600, but my training partner helped me get thru the grind. He finished his 1,000 pushups in an amazing 36:45-- he did 25-30 pushups on the minute.
